THE USEFUL PART
Keep these in your head.
- Measure the normal set of closed original packages and the exact model's usable interior—not exterior dimensions, nominal liters, or a marketing photo.
- The calculator can test an upright load in its entered base orientation or rotated 90 degrees. It cannot rotate liquids sideways or model irregular obstructions.
- A geometric fit is not a security pass. Lock design, closure gaps, anchoring, key or code control, child-resistance scope, materials, and placement remain separate gates.
- Delivered cost per stated interior liter is comparison math, not a cheapest-is-best recommendation or proof that all stated volume is usable.
- Preserve the original child-resistant package inside locked, out-of-sight, out-of-reach storage and keep the exact exposure-response plan available.
What “smell-proof” usually means
The term generally describes a bag, jar, gasket, or lining intended to reduce odor escaping. There is no single consumer standard that makes every claim comparable. Performance changes with closure design, seam construction, cleanliness, temperature, and what is stored.
An odor barrier may improve discretion, but it should never be used to conceal illegal activity or bypass property rules.

Build a capacity worksheet before checkout
Do not buy from a product count such as “holds six jars” or from exterior dimensions. Keep each cannabis item in its original labeled package, place the normal household set together without opening it, and measure the widest, deepest, and tallest arrangement. Include medicine containers, edible packages, upright liquids, child-resistant caps, humidity tools, receipts, and any removable inner pouch that actually belongs in the system.
Ask the seller for usable interior dimensions with every divider, liner, lid recess, lock mechanism, hinge, and gasket installed. A generous outside shell can hide a much smaller interior. Do not use a container that forces a closure against a vape, glass package, liquid cap, or edible pouch.

Required dimensions = measured load + entered clearance. The calculator keeps height upright and checks width × depth in both base orientations. Smallest margin is the least remaining interior dimension for the fitting orientation. Rectangular liters = width × depth × height × 0.0163871. Delivered cost per stated liter = entered cost ÷ rectangular liters. Hinges, lid recesses, lock bodies, trays, dividers, foam, curves, tolerances, package removal, anchoring, and manufacturer instructions can reduce real capacity.
Math check: a 9 × 6 × 5-inch upright load plus 0.5 inch of clearance per dimension requires 9.5 × 6.5 × 5.5 inches. A 10 × 7 × 6-inch usable interior fits with a 0.5-inch smallest margin, has about 6.88 rectangular liters, and at $55 delivered equals about $7.99 per stated liter.
Judge the lock, not the word lockable
- The zipper pulls or latch cannot be opened enough to reach inside while “locked.”
- The lock body is not a decorative three-dial toy on a large flexible bag.
- Keys are controlled and spare keys are not stored beside the case.
- Codes are not birthdays shared with children or written on the container.
- A larger case can be anchored or secured inside locked furniture.
Translate security claims before paying for them

The Consumer Product Safety Commission explains that special packaging is designed to be significantly difficult for children under five to open within a reasonable time—not impossible. Preserve the original child-resistant package and add locked, out-of-sight, out-of-reach storage rather than substituting a marketing claim.
Maintaining the odor barrier
Residue on the outside defeats the system. Keep hands and tools clean, wipe sealing surfaces, avoid overfilling, and replace damaged liners or gaskets. Activated-carbon linings eventually saturate; follow the manufacturer’s refresh or replacement guidance.
Do not add fragrance, dryer sheets, or household chemicals inside a container holding inhaled or edible products.
Travel boundaries
In New York, adults may possess cannabis within state limits, but open containers and consumption in vehicles are prohibited, and impaired driving is illegal. Crossing state or international borders with cannabis remains illegal even when cannabis is legal on both sides.
A locked case does not change federal property rules, airline rules, employer policies, or another state’s law.
