Start with the official list

Open OCM’s live list yourself. Search the exact street address and business identity. A delivery site should also be tied to an authorized licensee.
Match three things
- Entity or trade name
Look for spelling changes and copied brands.
- Physical address
A license for one location does not automatically cover another storefront.
- Website or sales channel
Use the website listed by OCM or linked by the verified business.
At the storefront
Licensed dispensaries are issued New York’s Dispensary Verification Tool for display near the main entrance. Scan it and make sure it resolves to the official OCM domain and current list.
Do not treat a printed QR code as proof by itself. QR codes can be copied or redirected. Your browser address and the matching listing are the proof.

- Ingredients and required warnings
- THC and CBD amounts
- Processor or producer information
- Lot or batch number
- Expiration or best-by date where required
- QR code or link to a matching certificate of analysis
Unlicensed-shop red flags
- “Membership” or “gift” workaroundA separate paid item does not legalize an unlicensed cannabis sale.
- No exact OCM listing“Application pending” is not a retail license.
- National candy look-alikesPackaging attractive to children and copied snack branding are serious warnings.
- No batch matchA generic lab PDF does not verify the item in your hand.
- Cash-only pressure and no receiptNot proof by itself, but worth slowing down and verifying.
- Impossible potency or health claimsRegulated packaging cannot make false or misleading statements.
Why the distinction matters
Regulated products must meet New York requirements for production, testing, packaging, labeling, and sale. Unregulated products may have unknown contaminants, inaccurate potency, unsafe processing, or no meaningful traceability when something goes wrong.
Legal-market verification is not a guarantee that every product will suit every person. It is the minimum foundation for accountability.
Report a problem
Keep the package, receipt, photos, lot information, and a clear description of what happened. Seek medical care first when symptoms are serious. OCM accepts reports about adverse events, product concerns, business conduct, and suspected unlicensed activity.
